Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is one of the most universally praised public golf courses in America β€” ranked in Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, and Golfweek’s Top 100 lists every year since opening in 1994, and named by USA Today as the 4th best public golf course in the United States in 2025. Mike Strantz’s first solo design launched him into the stratosphere of golf architecture. Built on the grounds of a former southern rice plantation in Pawleys Island β€” just 25 minutes south of Myrtle Beach β€” the arrival experience alone is unforgettable: a half-mile entrance drive flanked by centuries-old live oaks draped in Spanish moss delivers players to an antebellum-style clubhouse overlooking the course. The 6,526-yard par-70 layout is built around majestic oaks, meandering streams, and colorful azalea gardens, offering what many describe as 18 signature holes. The par-3 11th, the par-5 10th, and the dramatic par-4 18th β€” where onlookers sit on rocking chairs on the clubhouse porch betting on approach shots β€” are among the most memorable holes in all of Myrtle Beach golf. Caledonia is the sister course of True Blue Golf Club, and playing both courses in a single day is one of the Grand Strand’s ultimate golf experiences.
