The Dunes Golf & Beach Club is the undisputed crown jewel of Grand Strand golf β a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design from 1948 that has stood the test of time and competition to remain the area’s most revered layout for over 75 years. The second-oldest golf course in Myrtle Beach and the only one with ocean views, The Dunes has hosted the Senior PGA Tour Championship, the 1962 U.S. Women’s Open, the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, and the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic PGA Tour event in 2024. Ranked inside Golf Digest’s Top 25 courses in the state perennially, the course is famous for Alligator Alley β the 11th through 13th holes that play around the expansive Buck Island wetland preserve and Lake Singleton. The signature par-5 13th, nicknamed Waterloo, wraps dramatically around Lake Singleton with a boomerang shape that forces golfers to choose between risk and reward on every tee shot. The course features 45 sand bunkers, Champion Bermuda greens and fairways, and water hazards on multiple holes. As a member-owned private club with limited public access, securing a tee time at The Dunes is a genuine bucket-list achievement. Walking is not permitted. Collared shirts and Bermuda shorts required; no denim.
